From Guilin Liangjiang Airport, take a taxi or Didi (a ride-hailing app) to your hotel in Guilin, or arrange a car to Yangshuo if that is where you sleep. If you land late, sleep in Guilin first and move on the next morning.
Karst scenery is gentle on the body, but the first evening still goes better with a plan.
How far is the airport?
Guilin Liangjiang Airport is about 28 km southwest of the city centre[1]. Give yourself time for baggage and the ride, and avoid booking an evening show on landing day.
Ask your hotel in advance whether it offers a pickup, and keep the quote in writing. Our guide to Guilin to Yangshuo transport compares bus, taxi and boat for the longer leg.
Should you sleep in Guilin or go on to Yangshuo?
If you land before late afternoon and feel well, going straight to Yangshuo saves a change and gives you an evening on West Street. If you land at night or travel with small children or elders, rest in Guilin first.
Yangshuo is about 137 m above sea level and Guilin about 153 m[2][3], so there is no altitude worry for seniors. The journey itself is the tiring part.
Is a private car worth it?
A private car with a driver suits families with luggage, because it avoids transfers between buses. Read what it involves in our private driver guide for Guilin and Yangshuo. Ask for the price, the waiting time and the language the driver speaks before you agree.
A taxi fare is metered in the city, and passengers pay the meter fare[4]. For longer rides, agree the price first.
What about the Li River?
The Li River is 164 km long, and the Guilin to Yangshuo stretch is about 83 km[5]. That is the river distance, not the road. Treat the cruise as a day out, with a separate transfer for your bags.
Plan the cruise on a full day, not on the day you land.
What should you prepare before landing?
Keep these ready:
- Your original passport, which the hotel will copy[6].
- The hotel name and address in Chinese, as a screenshot.
- An offline map and translation app, since Google Maps and WhatsApp are blocked[7].
- A little cash as a backup for small shops.
Foreign visitors commonly use the Alipay mini program for Didi, which needs no Chinese phone number[8].
Better options when
If your flight lands in the evening, ask your hotel for a car and skip public transport. For flight choices, read the KL to Guilin flight options, and see the Guilin and Yangshuo region overview for planning the days.
