How we research

Reference materials and notes for researching China travel.

Our research steps

Each page starts with a reader’s question. We look for the answer in official sources, record the source and write the page around what those sources say.

Which sources we use

  • The Chinese embassy and immigration authorities for entry rules
  • Rail operators and airline pages for transport
  • UNESCO for World Heritage sites
  • Malaysian government pages for local requirements

Facts link to their source and carry the date we last checked. A reader can follow the link and confirm it.

Fast-changing facts

Visa rules, flight schedules and payment limits change. We mark these facts, state when we checked them and ask you to confirm with the official source before you travel.

Reviews and updates

We review pages on a regular schedule and when a rule changes. After a review, the checked date is updated.

Prices

A price appears only when a public dated source exists. For everything else, the tools on this site let you enter your own quotes and compare them.

Corrections

If you spot something out of date, send it on WhatsApp using the button on every page. Our editorial policy explains how we handle corrections.
