Group packages in China usually price a room for two people, and the default is twin beds. If you are a couple, ask for a double at booking and get the answer in writing. If you are friends or colleagues, twin beds are normally what you want.
It is awkward to find the wrong bed at midnight after a long travel day. A short message before you leave avoids that.
Which bed type suits which pair?
Choose by who shares the room, not by the picture on the booking page. Here is a simple guide.
| Who shares | Better request | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Two friends | Twin beds | Each person has their own space |
| A couple | Double bed | Say it at booking, not at the desk |
| Parent and adult child | Twin beds | Easier for night time bathroom trips |
| Two seniors | Twin beds, low floor | Quiet rest and shorter walks |
| A family with a small child | Ask about an extra bed | See our family room guide |
If your group is an odd number, read our guide to triple rooms before you book.
What does the package room usually assume?
A package quote usually lists a “twin sharing” room. That means two people in one room, with the price spread between them. Twin beds are the common default because they suit most pairs.
A double room is usually available but is not always the first one assigned. Hotels hold a limited number of double rooms, and group bookings are filled from what the hotel allocates.
Do this: when you receive a quote, find the line that says “twin” or “double”, and ask the agency to confirm which one your group has. Our package hotel category guide shows what else the quote leaves unsaid.
How do you word the request?
Be specific and kind. A clear message gets a clear reply, even through a translation app.
- Name the bed type: “one double bed” or “two single beds”.
- Give the number of guests and the dates.
- Ask for a written confirmation, not a note on the file.
- Send it once, before you travel, then bring a copy on your phone.
A vague request such as “please give us a nice room” is easy to miss. A clear one such as “two adults, one double bed, confirmed” is easy to act on.
What if the room is not what you asked for?
Stay calm and show your confirmation. Ask politely whether another room is free that night. Chinese hotels try to help when a guest is courteous, but they cannot invent a room that is not there.
If the problem is a bed type that suits your group badly, ask about an extra bed or a different room type. Our guide to family rooms and bed sizes explains how Chinese hotels describe beds.
How do you compare the cost?
A twin and a double can cost the same, but a hotel can charge for a bed change on a busy night. Ask before you pay. If you travel alone and must take a room by yourself, read our single supplement guide.
The package comparator lets you set two quotes side by side with the bed request noted for each. Browse the stays topic page for more on choosing rooms.
