You can fly from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing without changing planes, and there are two airports to know. When we checked in October 2026, Beijing was on the nine-gateway list Malaysia Airlines gave[1]. Your ticket will name Capital or Daxing, and each changes your first day.
If a long journey leaves you worried about the arrival, you are not alone. A little planning at this stage removes most of the stress.
Who flies Kuala Lumpur to Beijing?
Malaysia Airlines lists Beijing among its nine China-region gateways[1]. Officials said in March 2026 that Kota Kinabalu is connected to Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou and Fuzhou[2].
Compare fares and the baggage allowance before you pay. Our Kuala Lumpur gateway list shows the other cities you can reach.
Capital or Daxing: which is yours?
Check your ticket, because the two airports are on opposite sides of the city. Beijing Capital is about 32 km northeast of downtown[3]. Beijing Daxing opened on 25 September 2019 and is about 46 km south of Beijing[4].
Our guide to Capital versus Daxing explains which suits your hotel and onward plan.
How do you get into the city?
Capital has the Airport Express, which runs from Terminal 3 and Terminal 2 via Sanyuanqiao to Dongzhimen and Beixinqiao in about 16 to 20 minutes end to end[5]. Daxing has its own rail link, the Daxing Airport Express, with Line 20 also listed[6].
For a late arrival, heavy luggage or older parents, a taxi may be calmer. Read the Beijing airport transfer guide to compare the options.
What should you know about the weather?
Beijing averages about -3.7 C in January and about 26 C in July[7]. Winter clothing matters if you travel in the cold months, and layers help in every season. Add the coat to your luggage plan.
Do you need to plan the Forbidden City now?
Yes, if it is on your list. Every visitor needs a real-name advance reservation, and walk-up entry is not available[8]. International visitors can book with a passport and must bring the original passport used for the booking to enter via the Meridian Gate[9].
Reservations open at 20:00, seven days before the visit[10]. The palace is closed on Mondays except national holidays[11]. Confirm the rules on the official channel before you go.
What comes after Beijing?
You can carry on to Shanghai by high-speed train. Our Beijing to Shanghai train guide explains how, and the Beijing region overview helps you choose what to see.
